Description
The 3.5" Floppy Disk was introduced by Sony in 1980. In 1983 single sided 3.5" disk drives were released widely, followed by double-sided versions in 1984, and high density, double-sided diskettes in 1986 that could store 1.44 MB.
The 3.5" magnetic floppy was a very common portable storage for personal computers in the late 1980s and 1990s , but were outmatched for capacity and speed in the early 2000s by optical CD and DVD disks, which were in turn replaced by USB flash drives in the 2010s.
